In a common declaration released before ECOFIN meeting (7th November) by more than 1000 organizations of the European Civil Society including trade unions representing 11 member states and 50 million of European citizens, deplore the lack of progress made by the 11 Member States negotiating the Financial Transactions Tax (FTT). It is unacceptable for the Ministers of Finance of France, Italy and Spain to consider watering down proposals under pressure from the financial sector in defiance of public opinion [...]. At a time when European citizens are making sacrifices under austerity and inequalities are on the rise worldwide, none of the 11 Member States can afford to forego revenue of more than 30 billion euros and miss the opportunity to regulate finance. The financial sector is under-taxed - it can afford to be taxed more to repay the costs of public bailouts and the on-going costs of the recession it caused. Therefore we call on the 11 Member States pursing an FTT agreement under the Enhanced Cooperation Procedure to conclude an ambitious tax.

Our citizens' initiative demands a "EU special program of public investments for the production and financing of European public goods". It should be financed "increasing the own resources of the European budget through a financial transactions tax and a carbon tax".
During a press conference in Bruxelles (12 November 2014) Beppe Grillo - the Italian leader of 5Stars Movement - affirmed that "we'll collect one million signatures for a referendum against the Euro".
Perhaps* Casaleggio and Grillo, the guru of the 5Stars Movement, don't know that another referendum going in opposite direction already exists. The collection of a million signatures, based on art. 11 of the Lisbon Treaty, in seven member states, to demand a European extraordinary plan for sustainable development and employment.

Our citizens' initiative - the only political alternative on the ground to the referendum proposed by Beppe Grillo - demands a "public investment plan to help Europe get out of the crisis through the development of knowledge society and the creation of new jobs especially for youth".
